  Cambodia is rapidly moving towards transforming its cities into sustainable ones. According to a recent announcement issued by the Ministry of Land Management, the Cambodian Government has agreed to Japan’s initiative that seeks to drive investment in the development of SMART cities in the Kingdom. Thus, effectively joining the Public-Private Platform for Urban Development between Cambodia and Japan. This platform provides Cambodia and Japan an open line of communication to discuss urban development plans and to help modernise the Kingdom’s three largest urban areas – Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang.  
  According to the Asian Development Bank, Cambodia’s economic growth is projected to stay robust at 7% in 2019 due to strong economic performance. A high potential country for investment, the Kingdom is ranked 37th in the world for investment by Market Potential Index.

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen recently announced that the country is facing power shortage, due to the dry season. However, the Cambodian Government is actively working to solve its energy issues. Cambodia will buy 200 megawatts from Laos and has requested the Vietnamese Government to supply more electricity to feed the rising demand for power. With the Kingdom’s electricity demand reported to increase by 8.7 folds according to an estimate by the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN (ERIA), there is an abundant of opportunities to capitalise on in Cambodia’s energy industry.
